General Service Building in Alicante’s Seaport

MEMORY
2nd PRIZE
We have a site that is inside the development area of the seaport of Alicante.
The surroundings are industrial. It is not a plot within a city. It is a plot used to work, a productive plot.
The Port of Alicante is changing and different buildings are being replaced. Next to the plot the new Casa del Mar and the New Urban access to the port of Alicante are placed.
The purpose of this competition is to design the new buildings for the Complementary Port Services. This is a program that mixes industrial areas with administrative areas.
One person could think even on an industrial building. The site is located on the edge of the city, the image of the building is not a warehouse. Analyzing the program and the environment we conclude that the building should have a landscape position. Within the environment it must behave as an urban object and close the left side of the extension of Oscar Esplá Avenue. Analyzing the different parts of the program it must form a single building. The building program should show sincerity, it means that each part of the program uses its own required volume. The building also opens itself outwards.
The various uses are unified in two ways, by a cover sheet that continues on the walls and through a veil that extends to the walls and part of the deck.
The veil of the facade is in memory of the work of the fishers of the Port of Alicante.
